This weeks book club review could be very short and sweet. Limitless is the new book by brain guru Jim Kwik.
Why would the review be short? Well, you just open the first pages and there you find lists of celebrities, and people of influence, explaining how Jim has helped them in the past and present. The first one on the front cover:
Jim Kwik knows how to get the maximum out of me as a human being (Will Smith).
Jim, who is described as the world's number one brain coach, has written the owner's manual for mental expansion and brain fitness.
Limitless gives people the ability to accomplish more!
More productivity, more transformation, more personal success and business achievement by changing their Mindset, Motivation, and Methods. Also known as the 3M's.
One reason that I bought this book was that there is a section on how to increase the speed in which you read. My only annoyance is that it was at the back end of the book.
I know what you are thinking, why didn't I just go to that chapter, learn Jim's techniques, and then read the book from start to finish. I'm sat here writing this post thinking the same. However, I didn't, and I feel that I got more out of the book due to this.
Plus I read it a second time faster; I enjoyed the book that much!
It would be unfair of me to review a book that I enjoyed and not let you know about some of the negatives that others found. This is, of course, an unbiased review.
The biggest critical reviews were;
"Nothing new if you have read something else before on the matter".
"More like a reference book and his marketing product".
I'll pick up on the second one first. Yes, in this book Jim does ask you to refer to his website a lot. However, if you are new to this type of subject matter, or even wanting a refresher, then these are helpful resources.
To comment on the first review, again, it is true, many authors have written books on the brain and some of the content, through quotes, is in the book also. That said, have you ever struggled to understand something that someone is telling you and then one day, you hear somebody else saying the same thing, but all of a sudden you get it? That was me with this book.
Ultimately, I feel that this book is worth its spot in our book club as it meets our values of helping others and empowering them to learn and grow.
The most important part of this for me was the main theme;
"You have no limitations. Despite what others have told you, your potential is infinite - when you know how to use your brain".
So what do you get out of the book I hear you ask? Well, in bullet points, you should get ready to:
Master Your Habits: Learn how to break negative patterns and effortlessly create new positive routines.
Unleash Your Productivity: Vanquish the 4 "supervillains" hijacking your neural pathways.
Tap into Boundless Motivation: Access an unlimited fuel source to reach your goals.
Eliminate Mental Fog: Get expert techniques and tips, from the best brain foods to ways of optimizing your sleep.
Sharpen Your Focus: Be clear and become unstoppable in a world of distractions and overload.
Learn Anything: Read faster, make better decisions, and confidently remember everything from names to languages, no matter your age.
